How the $600 Lodging Credit, Airbnb Luxe eligibility, $250 Airbnb Experiences Credit, and 2027 Fine Hotels + Resorts rules work.

The hotel credit on the American Express Platinum Card® has been renamed the $600 Lodging Credit, with eligible prepaid Airbnb Luxe stays added to the existing hotel options. The amount remains up to $300 in statement credits every six months. Starting January 1, 2027, Fine Hotels + Resorts® bookings must be at least two nights to qualify for the credit.
The October 22, 2026 announcement also adds a separate up to $250 annual Airbnb Experiences Credit, unlocked after a qualifying prepaid Airbnb Luxe booking is confirmed. These changes apply to eligible U.S. Consumer Platinum Card® and Business Platinum Card® Accounts.
For travelers who already book private homes, Luxe adds another way to use the benefit. For someone who usually uses the credit on a one-night hotel stay, the 2027 minimum can make the credit harder to fit into existing travel plans.
Terms apply to American Express benefits and offers. Enrollment may be required for select American Express benefits and offers. Visit americanexpress.com to learn more.

American Express Platinum Card®Annual fee: $895

Sebby's take: Despite a hefty annual fee, you get up to $3,500 in credits that help offset this. The card is great for people who benefit from lounge access, travel protections, and access to programs like Fine Hotels & Resorts.

The allowance is split into two benefit periods: up to $300 from January through June and up to $300 from July through December. Spending $600 on one eligible booking in a single period does not make the entire annual allowance available. Additional Cards share the account’s limit.
Pay in full at booking with an eligible Card. Amex calls this “Pay Now.” Pay Later, Pay at Hotel, and ordinary hotel reservations outside Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection do not qualify. For Airbnb, the lodging credit requires an eligible Luxe property.
No enrollment is required for the lodging credit. You do need to follow the booking and payment rules, including linking your Amex and Airbnb accounts for an Airbnb reservation. Terms Apply.
The eligible charge’s processing date determines the benefit period; travel can take place later. Amex lists June 30 and December 31 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time as the processing deadlines. Leave time for merchant processing instead of relying on a last-day booking.
Allow up to 90 days for an eligible lodging statement credit to post. A cancellation, refund, or modification can cause a credit to be reversed. Check the remaining allowance in your Amex account before paying.
Effective January 1, 2027, Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings require at least two nights to qualify for the $600 Lodging Credit. The Hotel Collection and Airbnb Luxe already require two consecutive nights.
This changes the economics of using the credit on a quick overnight trip. If you only need one night, paying for another night just to trigger a credit can increase your total expense.
For illustration, assume a hotel costs $350 per night, excluding taxes and fees, and you have the full $300 allowance available. A qualifying one-night stay under the 2026 rules would leave $50 after the credit. Under the two-night rule, a $700 stay would leave $400. These are hypothetical prices; compare the total cost of the trip you actually need.
The announced minimum concerns statement-credit eligibility. Fine Hotels + Resorts program benefits are a separate part of the hotel booking. Avoid assuming that every FHR reservation will trigger a lodging statement credit.
For a one-night stay in 2027 that you plan to prepay in 2026, ask Amex to confirm how the transition applies before relying on the credit. The processing-date rule identifies the benefit period, but the published change should not be treated as a blanket promise that every advance booking is grandfathered. Terms Apply.
The lodging credit covers eligible prepaid Airbnb Luxe bookings made with Airbnb through AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App™. A regular Airbnb home does not qualify for this credit, even if you find it through American Express Travel.
Airbnb Luxe is Airbnb’s collection of selected premium private homes. A property must be part of that collection; a high nightly price or a luxury-sounding listing title is not enough. Check the Luxe designation and the property’s own minimum stay before paying.
Starting independently on Airbnb and simply paying with Platinum does not satisfy the required American Express Travel booking route. After booking, manage host messages, changes, and cancellations through Airbnb.
Yes. Eligible Consumer and Business Platinum Card Members can earn 5X Membership Rewards points on qualifying prepaid Airbnb stays booked through American Express Travel online, including eligible homes outside Luxe. That broader points eligibility does not make every Airbnb stay eligible for the lodging credit. Additional fees, such as pool heating or pet fees, are excluded from the additional-points benefit. Terms Apply.
The Airbnb Experiences Credit is a separate allowance of up to $250 per calendar year per eligible Card Account. First, make a qualifying prepaid Airbnb Luxe booking with Airbnb through AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App using an eligible Card. The booking must be confirmed to unlock the benefit.
Once unlocked, purchase eligible Experiences directly at Airbnb.com/experiences or in the Airbnb app’s Experiences tab with an eligible Card on the same account. Make the purchase by December 31 of the year the Luxe booking is confirmed. Experiences redirected to a third-party checkout, such as certain event tickets, are excluded.
Check the benefit’s unlocked status in your Amex account before buying an Experience. If a Luxe request is declined or expires, the benefit remains locked. Allow up to eight weeks after an eligible Experiences charge for the statement credit to post.
Keep at least one qualifying Luxe booking uncancelled. Cancelling all qualifying bookings can relock the benefit and reverse previously issued Experiences credits. A qualifying booking is needed each calendar year; one reservation does not unlock the allowance indefinitely. Terms Apply.
The two published annual maximums add up to $850: up to $600 for eligible lodging plus up to $250 for eligible Experiences. They cover different purchases and have different timing rules. The lodging portion is capped at $300 in each half of the year, and the Experiences portion requires the qualifying Luxe booking.
For a hypothetical eligible $1,200 Luxe stay in one benefit period, a full unused $300 lodging allowance would leave $900 before any other charges. The separate Experiences credit could offset a subsequent eligible activity purchase after unlocking. It does not take another $250 off the home rental itself.
Airbnb Luxe adds the most value when a private home already fits your trip. A family or group can compare a home with enough bedrooms against the hotel rooms they would otherwise book. Look at the complete price, cancellation policy, transportation, and which travelers are sharing the bill.
A couple who usually books a single hotel night faces a different calculation. The FHR minimum can require more spending or a different trip to use the credit in 2027. Value the credit according to travel you would otherwise book.
