The American Express Platinum Card® lets eligible U.S. Card Members use the up to $600 annual Lodging Credit for qualifying prepaid Airbnb Luxe stays of at least two consecutive nights. Book with Airbnb through American Express Travel® online using your eligible Card. The allowance is split into up to $300 January–June and up to $300 July–December.

A qualifying confirmed Luxe booking can also unlock a separate up to $250 annual Airbnb Experiences Credit for eligible activities purchased directly from Airbnb. These are statement credits after qualifying charges, so you pay for the purchases before the credits are applied.

For a family trip, group getaway, or special occasion where a private home already makes sense, these benefits can reduce planned travel expenses. Start with the kind of stay you want: ordinary Airbnb homes and Airbnb Luxe have different credit eligibility.

Terms apply to American Express benefits and offers. Enrollment may be required for select American Express benefits and offers. Visit americanexpress.com to learn more.

Sebby's take: Despite a hefty annual fee, you get up to $3,500 in credits that help offset this. The card is great for people who benefit from lounge access, travel protections, and access to programs like Fine Hotels & Resorts.

Which Airbnb bookings qualify for Amex Platinum credits?

The lodging credit and Experiences unlock require Airbnb Luxe. A regular Airbnb listing does not qualify simply because it looks luxurious, has a high nightly rate, or accepts your Platinum Card.

Luxe is Airbnb’s selected collection of premium private homes. Confirm the property’s Luxe designation, the booking route, and its minimum stay before paying. The benefit requires at least two consecutive nights, and a host can require a longer stay.

The Lodging Credit is shared with eligible prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection bookings. If you use the full $300 allowance on an eligible hotel in one half of the year, there is no additional $300 lodging allowance for a Luxe booking in that same period.

Does booking Airbnb directly count?

Starting independently on Airbnb and paying with Platinum does not satisfy the credits’ required booking route. Begin through AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App, then complete the Airbnb reservation through that flow.

For qualifying prepaid Airbnb stays booked through American Express Travel online, the consumer Platinum Card earns 5X Membership Rewards points. Eligible regular homes can qualify for those points even though they do not qualify for the lodging credit or unlock Experiences credits. Extra purchases such as pool heating or pet fees are excluded from additional-points earning. Terms Apply.

How to book Airbnb Luxe with Amex Platinum

  1. Start in the right place. Open the Homes tab at AmexTravel.com or in the Amex Travel App.
  2. Choose a qualifying Luxe stay. Check the Luxe designation, dates, guest capacity, and minimum stay. Compare the total price with other places you would book.
  3. Link your accounts. Follow the prompts to connect your American Express online account and Airbnb account. The names must match.
  4. Read the host’s terms. Review cancellation rules and any separate charges before committing to the reservation.
  5. Prepay with the eligible Card. Complete the Airbnb booking through the American Express Travel flow and pay in full. The Card Member paying must stay at the property.
  6. Check confirmation and credit availability. A pending request is not a confirmed booking. Check your Amex account for the remaining lodging allowance and the Experiences benefit’s unlocked status.

No enrollment is required for the lodging credit. Linking the accounts and following the purchase instructions are still necessary. For an eligible Luxe booking, a deposit or payment made only at checkout does not satisfy the prepayment requirement.

After booking, manage host messages, reservation changes, and cancellations through Airbnb. Keep the confirmation and payment details so you can follow up if a credit does not appear. Terms Apply.

How the $250 Airbnb Experiences Credit works

A confirmed qualifying prepaid Airbnb Luxe booking unlocks the benefit for that calendar year. Then use an eligible Card on the same account to buy eligible Experiences directly at Airbnb.com/experiences or through the Experiences tab in the Airbnb app.

The allowance is up to $250 per eligible Card Account per calendar year. It pays for qualifying activities, rather than another portion of the home rental. Experiences that send you to a third-party checkout, including certain live-event ticket purchases, are excluded.

Which year’s Experiences credit can you use?

Use the credit in the year the Luxe booking is confirmed. For example, if a qualifying reservation is confirmed in November for a stay the following spring, the unlocked Experiences allowance runs through December 31 of the confirmation year. You do not have to wait for the Luxe stay to take place before purchasing an eligible Experience.

Check unlocked status before paying and leave time for the Experience charge to process by year-end. A December 31 purchase processed as January 1 may miss the prior year’s allowance. A new qualifying booking is needed to unlock the benefit in another calendar year.

A host has 24 hours to accept or decline a booking request. Declined or expired requests leave the benefit locked. If a confirmed qualifying booking has not unlocked it after 72 hours, call the number on the back of your Card.

The lodging charge’s processing date determines which half-year allowance applies; the stay can occur later. Spending more in one period does not unlock the other period’s allowance.

Cancellations can reverse credits. For Experiences, keep at least one qualifying Luxe booking uncancelled. If all qualifying Luxe bookings are cancelled, the benefit can relock and previously issued Experiences credits may be reversed. A cancelled, refunded, or modified lodging purchase can also result in a lodging-credit reversal.

If you requalify after a cancellation, confirm the benefit has unlocked again before making a new eligible Experience purchase. Earlier purchases do not automatically become eligible again. Terms Apply.

Is Amex Platinum worth it for Airbnb stays?

These benefits are most useful when Luxe fits a trip you already want to take. A home with enough bedrooms for a family or group can be a practical alternative to booking several hotel rooms. Compare location, service, transportation, cancellation terms, and the full required stay.

Here are illustrative credit totals for one eligible Card Account. Each example assumes enough qualifying lodging spending and unused allowance, eligible purchases processed within the correct periods, confirmed bookings, and no cancellations. These are benefit calculations, not quoted property prices.

Hypothetical annual useIllustrative statement credits
Qualifying Luxe spending using one full half-year lodging allowance; no eligible Experiences purchases$300
The same lodging use plus $180 of eligible Experiences purchased after unlocking$480: $300 lodging + $180 Experiences
Qualifying Luxe spending using both half-year lodging allowances plus $250 of eligible Experiences after unlocking$850: $600 lodging + $250 Experiences

Is there an $850 Amex Platinum Airbnb credit?

The two annual maximums add up to $850, but there is no single $850 home-rental credit. The lodging allowance is split across two periods and shared with eligible hotels. The $250 allowance covers separate Experiences purchases after unlocking.

Even the full combined $850 is $45 less than the card’s $895 annual fee. Your actual savings may be lower, especially if you would choose a cheaper property or already use the lodging allowance for hotels. Evaluate the full card based on your own travel and spending.

Use our Amex Platinum calculator to assign values to the benefits you expect to use. Replace example figures with your own plans, and count the lodging allowance once across hotels and Airbnb.

Amex Platinum Airbnb credit FAQs

Does Amex Platinum have an Airbnb credit?

Eligible prepaid Airbnb Luxe stays of at least two consecutive nights can use the shared Lodging Credit, up to $300 each half of the year and $600 annually. A qualifying confirmed Luxe booking can also unlock up to $250 per year for eligible Airbnb Experiences purchased directly from Airbnb.

Can I use the Amex Platinum Airbnb credit on a regular Airbnb?

Regular Airbnb homes do not qualify for the lodging credit or unlock the Experiences credit. Qualifying prepaid regular Airbnb stays booked through American Express Travel online can still earn 5X Membership Rewards points with the consumer Platinum Card.

Do I need to enroll for the Airbnb lodging credit?

No enrollment is required for the lodging credit. Link your Amex and Airbnb accounts and make the qualifying prepaid Luxe booking through AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App. The Experiences benefit must be unlocked by a qualifying confirmed Luxe booking.

Can I use the $250 Experiences Credit before my Airbnb Luxe stay?

You can purchase an eligible Experience after the qualifying Luxe booking is confirmed and the benefit is unlocked, without waiting for the stay. The Experience purchase must qualify and process in the confirmation calendar year, and at least one qualifying Luxe booking must remain uncancelled.

Does the $250 Airbnb Experiences Credit pay for an Airbnb home?

The Experiences credit covers eligible activities purchased directly through Airbnb after unlocking. It does not offset the home rental itself, and Experiences that redirect payment to a third-party platform are excluded.

Do Additional Cards get separate Airbnb credit limits?

No. Eligible Cards on the same account share the lodging limit of up to $300 each half-year and the Experiences limit of up to $250 per calendar year. Additional Cards do not multiply these account-level allowances.

Is the Airbnb credit extra to the Amex Platinum hotel credit?

Airbnb Luxe shares the same Lodging Credit allowance with eligible Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection bookings. The conditional Airbnb Experiences Credit is a separate benefit for eligible activity purchases.

Does Amex Business Platinum also have the Airbnb credits?

Eligible U.S. accounts for The Business Platinum Card® from American Express can also use the shared lodging allowance for qualifying Luxe stays and unlock the conditional Airbnb Experiences Credit. The booking, payment, timing, and account-limit requirements still apply.
