Eligible United cardholders now earn more miles on paid flights, get at least 10% off award tickets, and have better access to lower-priced award space.

United Quest℠ CardAnnual fee: $350
Sebby's Take: My recommendation for United loyalists. The $200 credit and 10,000-mile credit each account anniversary when booking an award flight helps offset the annual fee. On top of that, you get free first and second checked bags.

United℠ Explorer CardAnnual fee: $0 Intro Annual fee for the First Year, then $150
Sebby's Take: The ideal card to get the perks of airline status, without being a frequent flyer. My favorite is free first checked bag (great for skiers!). The annual fee is offset by 2 United Club one-time passes per year.

The one important caveat is the United Gateway℠ Card. On United’s personal card page, the United Gateway℠ Card only gets the better award pricing and higher flight earnings after $10,000 spend in a calendar year. So yes, it technically participates, but not in the same straightforward way as the fee-based cards.
That is why this change is most useful for people holding something like the United℠ Explorer Card, United Quest℠ Card, United Club℠ Card, or the United℠ Business Card. These are the cards that more cleanly plug into the new earn-more, redeem-cheaper setup.
MileagePlus is more cardholder-friendly than it used to be.
If you have an eligible United card, you earn faster on paid flights, keep more value on Basic Economy, and get cheaper United-operated award bookings. That is the simple version, and it is the part most people searching this topic actually want to know.
