We booked EVA’s Royal Laurel Class with United miles. Here’s what to know about the seat, meals and sleep before flying from Taipei to Dallas.

EVA Air business class from Taipei to Dallas delivered good food, a premium amenity kit, a comfortable flat bed and friendly, attentive service. I had no problem sleeping in Royal Laurel Class. The main seat drawback was the lack of a closing door. My biggest practical tip is to preorder your meal online, because some choices had run out by the time the crew reached us.
We flew EVA Air BR50 in Royal Laurel business class from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). We booked the long-haul flight with United MileagePlus miles. Here is what the seat, food, amenities and sleep were like, plus how we booked EVA business class through United.

| Detail | Our flight |
|---|---|
| Route | Taipei Taoyuan (TPE) to Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), nonstop |
| Flight | EVA Air BR50 |
| Cabin | Royal Laurel Class, EVA’s long-haul business class |
| Scheduled timing | 7:40 p.m. departure from Taipei and 8:25 p.m. arrival in Dallas, both local times; 13 hours, 45 minutes |
| How we booked | United MileagePlus miles, with Business (I) award space on EVA Air |
| Seat and sleep | Flat bed with a mattress topper; comfortable enough that I had no problem sleeping |
| Privacy | Seat shell, with no closing suite door |
| Service | Friendly and attentive |
| Main planning tip | Preorder meals online; some onboard choices ran out on our flight |
The seat worked well for a flight this long. There was a broad side console for the menu, a drink and smaller items, with the screen directly ahead. I found the seat comfortable in both its upright and sleeping positions. The photos show the staggered Royal Laurel layout used on EVA’s 787, with a substantial shell around each seat.

The tradeoff is privacy. This is an open business-class seat, without an enclosed suite or closing door. That was the main downside for me. If a door is high on your list, set that expectation before booking; a lie-flat seat and a private suite are different experiences.
EVA’s 787 and 777 Royal Laurel cabins both offer flat beds, but they use different seats. The 787 has a staggered layout, while the 777 has reverse-herringbone seats angled away from the aisle. Both use a 1-2-1 arrangement with direct aisle access, so that layout alone does not tell you which seat you are booking.
Check your exact flight date and aircraft, then compare the map with the cabin photographs. Aircraft assignments can change. For a solo trip, I would start with the window seats and compare how close each seat sits to the aisle. For two travelers, look at the center pair and its divider before choosing seats.

Our flight also included pajamas, slippers, headphones and an amenity kit. The photos below show the pajamas, headphones and kit contents. Product designs and contents can change, so treat these as examples from this trip. The cabin lighting included a star effect on the ceiling during the flight.

Preorder your meal if you care about getting a particular choice. Some options had run out by the time the crew got to us. Friendly service cannot bring back a main course that is no longer available, and this is an easy part of the trip to plan ahead.
EVA’s online meal selection window runs from 21 days to 24 hours before departure for confirmed, ticketed reservations in eligible cabins. Some routes also have online-exclusive dishes. Use EVA’s meal preorder information and open Meal Order for your reservation. Recheck an order after a flight or cabin change; the original selection can be canceled. Substitutions can still happen.
The dinner menu for our flight started with sesame-coated tuna and guacamole, tomato clam chowder and a vegetable salad. Main-course choices included beef fillet, seafood with noodles and steamed silver perch with soybean crisp and egg fried rice. The photos below show the tuna starter and the seafood and fish dishes from our trip.

The dessert selection included cheese, fruit, ice cream and mango cake. These photos and menu details reflect our flight. Menus rotate, and a listed dish is not a promise that it will be available on a future departure.

I had no problem sleeping on this flight. EVA provided a mattress topper for the flat bed, and the setup was very comfortable. On a flight scheduled for nearly 14 hours, that mattered more to me than having the newest-looking cabin.

The snack menu offered more than packaged snacks. Options on our flight included a soft-shell crab burger and wagyu gua bao with pan-fried dumplings. Instant noodles and cookies were also listed. The burger and bao are pictured below.

The prearrival menu offered Chinese congee, a Western option with pork and pasta, and an Asian noodle selection. The Western starter included smoked salmon and cured meat. Our photos show the starter, pork main course and congee option, giving you an idea of the different styles available.

The crew was friendly and attentive throughout the flight. Combined with the comfortable bed, that made the long trip easier. My meal-selection issue is why I would preorder next time, rather than leave a preferred dish to onboard availability.
For me, the strongest reasons to book Royal Laurel Class are the comfortable bed and attentive service. I slept well, and the mattress topper helped make the seat a comfortable place to spend the night. The lack of a closing door is the clear tradeoff.
United miles were a practical way to book the EVA long-haul business-class flight, and the eligible card discount lowered our booking cost. I would compare United with Aeroplan and EVA’s own program before committing rewards, then choose the option that actually has the seats and dates I need. A lower award-chart price only helps if you can book it. If you are comparing premium cabins for another trip, start with our award flight playbooks.
The long-haul award we booked was EVA Air BR50 from Taipei to Dallas in business class. In United’s search results, it appeared in the Business column, with the EVA segment listed as Business (I). The business-class quote was 100,000 miles plus $47.43 per person with cardmember pricing, reduced from the displayed 110,000-mile price.

Pricing note: Our complete ticket also included a United economy connection from DFW to SFO, which is why United labeled the itinerary mixed cabin. The Taipei to Dallas flight reviewed here was in EVA business class. The mileage and cash totals below cover the complete booking.
At checkout, we applied one 10,000-mile award flight discount to the two-person reservation. The United Quest℠ Card offers this discount on eligible awards. Here is how the full itinerary priced:
| Pricing step | Two travelers |
|---|---|
| Before the displayed cardmember savings | 220,000 miles (110,000 per person) |
| Cardmember fare | 200,000 miles (100,000 per person) |
| One award flight discount | Subtract 10,000 miles from the reservation total |
| Taxes and fees | $94.86 ($47.43 per person) |
| Total at checkout | 190,000 miles plus $94.86 |
The final checkout total averaged 95,000 miles plus $47.43 per person for two travelers after one 10,000-mile discount. The screenshot below shows that reservation total. Search your dates and passenger count before transferring rewards; award pricing and availability can differ.

| Booking program | One-way business-class mileage | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| United MileagePlus | 100,000 miles plus $47.43 per person in our EVA business-class booking example, before the separate discount | The complete booking included an onward United connection. Two travelers totaled 190,000 miles plus $94.86 after one 10,000-mile discount. Search your exact itinerary for current pricing. |
| Air Canada Aeroplan | 102,500 points for an eligible nonstop EVA award in the 7,501- to 11,000-mile band | Partner space is required. Add the C$39 partner booking fee and applicable taxes. Connections can change the pricing. |
| EVA Infinity MileageLands | 80,000 miles between Asia and Dallas | This is EVA’s own award chart. Availability can differ from partners. Taxes and applicable charges are extra. |
Aeroplan changed the relevant partner business-class price from 87,500 to 102,500 points for tickets booked or reissued beginning June 1, 2026. Older redemption examples can still describe real trips, but they are not the price to assume for a new booking.
For the program comparison, aircraft identifiers and transfer planning, use our EVA Air Royal Laurel booking playbook. It covers more U.S. gateways, so use the Dallas price above when planning this specific route. Our Points Pooler can help identify which of your rewards balances reach the booking program you want.
For an EVA Infinity MileageLands award, sign in to EVA and select Member Award Tickets. Search TPE to DFW in Royal Laurel Class, confirm that the seat is available for ticketing, then check the miles and cash charges. Complete any required nominee setup before transferring rewards if you are booking for another traveler.
For Aeroplan, search with points on Air Canada, select the EVA-operated flight and confirm the cabin for every segment. Compare the final points and cash cost before transferring rewards.
The quoted cash fare from Taipei (TPE) to Dallas (DFW) was TWD 117,016 one way per person, including taxes, for Business Basic (D). The higher fare options were TWD 137,003 for Business Standard (J) and TWD 197,546 for Business Up (C). All three amounts below are in New Taiwan dollars.
| Fare option | Quoted retail price |
|---|---|
| Business Basic (D) | TWD 117,016 |
| Business Standard (J) | TWD 137,003 |
| Business Up (C) | TWD 197,546 |
Cash fares vary by date and fare rules. Compare the full itinerary and ticket conditions when choosing cash or miles. Cash fares and award tickets can have different change, refund and mileage-earning rules.

A cash ticket can be useful when your dates are fixed or you need more seats than the award search offers. Check the final fare and ticket rules directly with EVA. Avoid transferring rewards into a program until the exact flight, cabin and passenger count are bookable.
Starting with the first account anniversary, the United Quest℠ Card provides a 10,000-mile award flight discount each year. An eligible award must redeem more than 10,000 miles and include at least one United or United Express segment. Each unused discount expires 12 months after issue. Our United connection from Dallas to San Francisco met the segment requirement; an EVA-only ticket would not.
The cardmember fare and the 10,000-mile award flight discount are separate savings. Check your primary MileagePlus account for an available discount and confirm that it applies at checkout. A new card does not provide the anniversary discount immediately.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card earns Chase Ultimate Rewards® points that can transfer to United MileagePlus or Air Canada Aeroplan at a 1:1 ratio. That gives you a way to compare two programs for an EVA award. Chase does not transfer directly to EVA Infinity MileageLands.
The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card earns Capital One miles, which can transfer to Aeroplan at 1:1 or EVA Infinity MileageLands at 2:1.5. Those are different routes with different award prices and inventory. An 80,000-mile EVA award does not mean you only need 80,000 Capital One miles. Confirm the conversion and required transfer increments before proceeding.
These cards do not guarantee an EVA award seat. Compare the card’s cost and benefits with your regular spending, then use the native offers below for current card details. Our transfer partner directory can help with the funding options.
United Quest℠ CardAnnual fee: $350
Sebby's Take: My recommendation for United loyalists. The $200 credit and 10,000-mile credit each account anniversary when booking an award flight helps offset the annual fee. On top of that, you get free first and second checked bags.

EVA calls its long-haul business class Royal Laurel Class. Our BR50 flight from Taipei Taoyuan to Dallas Fort Worth included a flat bed, a mattress topper, meals, pajamas and an amenity kit.
No. The Royal Laurel seat has a privacy shell but no closing suite door. EVA’s 787 and 777 Royal Laurel cabins use different seat designs, so check the aircraft and seat map for your flight.
The United Business search result showed 100,000 miles plus $47.43 per person with cardmember pricing. Our Taipei to Dallas flight was in EVA business class, listed as Business (I). The complete two-person booking totaled 190,000 miles plus $94.86 after one additional 10,000-mile discount.
An eligible award must include at least one United or United Express segment. Our booking included an onward United flight from DFW to SFO, and checkout applied one 10,000-mile discount to the two-person total. A standalone EVA-operated flight does not meet that segment requirement.
The quoted Business Basic (D) fare from TPE to DFW was TWD 117,016 one way per person, including taxes. Higher fare options were TWD 137,003 for Business Standard (J) and TWD 197,546 for Business Up (C). Prices vary by date and fare rules.
An eligible nonstop EVA partner award falls in Aeroplan’s 7,501- to 11,000-mile North America to Pacific band at 102,500 points one way in business class. Add the C$39 partner booking fee and applicable taxes. Award availability is required, and connections can change the price.
Chase Ultimate Rewards does not transfer directly to EVA Infinity MileageLands. Eligible Chase points can transfer to United MileagePlus or Air Canada Aeroplan, which can book EVA flights when partner awards are available.
Eligible passengers with confirmed, ticketed reservations can select meals online from 21 days to 24 hours before departure. We recommend doing this because some choices ran out before the crew reached us. Substitutions remain possible.
Our flight was scheduled for 13 hours, 45 minutes, departing Taipei at 7:40 p.m. and arriving in Dallas at 8:25 p.m. Both times are local. Check the schedule for your own date.
