How to redeem the companion certificate for flights, compare savings and follow the booking and expiration rules.

The Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® credit card offers a 25,000-point Global Companion Award each account anniversary. You can also earn a 100,000-point Global Companion Award after spending $60,000 or more on purchases during a card anniversary year. Travelers often call these benefits the Atmos Summit companion certificate.
How do you use it? Apply your certificate when booking two award tickets together on AlaskaAir.com. It reduces the companion’s points price by up to the certificate’s limit. You redeem points for the remaining balance and pay all applicable taxes, fees and surcharges with your Summit card.
The useful part is the flexibility: eligible Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and partner awards can qualify in any cabin, including business and first class. You still need available award seats for both travelers.
Current limited-time online offer: Get 100,000 bonus points and a 25,000-point Global Companion Award after spending $6,000 or more on purchases within the first 90 days of opening your account. This offer is for new accounts and is separate from the recurring anniversary benefit. Offer availability and eligibility are subject to the terms at the linked application destination. The card has a $395 annual fee.

You can earn up to 100,000 points and a 25k Global Companion Award with this card's big limited time offer. The standout for me is earning 3 points per $1 spent on eligible foreign purchases without foreign transaction fees. I’d consider this if you spend regularly abroad and use Atmos points for award flights. The companion award and Alaska Lounge passes add value, but overseas spending is the main draw.

| Question | Rule |
|---|---|
| What does it cover? | Up to 25,000 or 100,000 points toward one companion’s award ticket, depending on the certificate. |
| How many travelers? | Book two travelers together on the same itinerary. |
| Where do you book? | AlaskaAir.com, with the certificate applied to a new booking. |
| Which airlines and cabins? | Eligible Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and global partner awards available through AlaskaAir.com, in any cabin. Award space is limited and capacity controls or blackout dates may apply. |
| Which itineraries? | One-way or round-trip. Multicity and open-jaw itineraries are excluded. |
| Must the cardholder travel? | No. You can book for any two travelers. |
| What do you pay in cash? | All applicable taxes, fees and surcharges with the Summit card. Apple Pay is unavailable for this checkout. |
| When does it expire? | One year from issuance to book. Travel can occur later. |
| Can you keep unused value? | No. Any unused portion is forfeited. |
| Can you combine certificates? | No. One per reservation; it cannot be combined with another discount. |
These are discounts on award tickets. You need enough Atmos Rewards points to cover the rest of the booking, and any applicable checked baggage charges remain your responsibility. Check the expiration date and terms attached to your certificate before booking.
Sign in to your linked Atmos Rewards account on AlaskaAir.com. Open the discount or companion code section of your account wallet. Choose the certificate you intend to use and check its expiration date. Its limit will be 25,000 or 100,000 points.

I’d search the same trip for two people before committing to dates or separate positioning flights. An award that looks attractive for one passenger may have no second seat available.
You cannot attach the certificate to an existing reservation. If you already booked, check the cancellation rules and whether the award seats are still available before making changes. Canceling a reservation does not guarantee that its seats will return to award inventory.
The recurring 25,000-point Global Companion Award arrives each account anniversary. The separate 100,000-point Global Companion Award requires at least $60,000 in net purchases within your card anniversary year. That spending window follows your account anniversary, rather than January through December.
A qualifying offer for new accounts may also include a 25,000-point certificate. Check your actual offer and account terms; a welcome benefit and an anniversary benefit have different triggers.
The larger certificate follows the same basic redemption idea: it can reduce one companion’s award price by up to its stated points amount. It is a certificate with a booking deadline, so do not count it as 100,000 unrestricted points added to your balance.
I’d pursue the certificate earned through spending only with purchases I already planned and a realistic trip for two. Consider the rewards you would give up on another card, the annual fee and whether you can find two eligible award seats before the certificate expires.
The examples below assume two tickets with the same points price and show the total for both passengers. They are hypothetical calculations, not quoted fares, available routes or guaranteed savings. Applicable taxes, fees and surcharges are additional in every row.
| Points per person | Certificate limit | Total without certificate | Total with certificate | Unused certificate value forfeited |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15,000 | 25,000 points | 30,000 | 15,000 | 10,000 |
| 25,000 | 25,000 points | 50,000 | 25,000 | 0 |
| 40,000 | 25,000 points | 80,000 | 55,000 | 0 |
| 75,000 | 100,000 points | 150,000 | 75,000 | 25,000 |
| 120,000 | 100,000 points | 240,000 | 140,000 | 0 |
In the example priced at 40,000 points per person, the first ticket costs 40,000 points and the companion’s ticket costs 15,000 points after the discount of 25,000 points. The combined price is 55,000 points, plus the cash charges.
If the companion’s ticket costs fewer points than the certificate covers, the remainder disappears. You cannot save it for another trip or apply the excess to the first traveler’s ticket.
That makes a useful trip more important than using every last point of the certificate. Saving 15,000 points on a trip you wanted can be more worthwhile than choosing an expensive itinerary just to use the full limit of 25,000 points.
In this San Francisco to Taipei search, business class costs 75,000 points for the first traveler and 50,000 points for the companion after applying a 25,000-point Global Companion Award. The total is 125,000 points for two, plus the cash charges shown at checkout. Fares and award availability vary.

Yes, eligible partner awards and premium cabins can qualify. The 25,000-point and 100,000-point Global Companion Awards can be used for eligible award travel available through AlaskaAir.com across Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska’s global partners, including the oneworld alliance.
The practical limit is inventory. A partner may release only one award seat in business class or none on your dates. Search for two travelers from the start and compare nearby dates if your plans allow it. A seat sold for cash on the operating airline’s website does not establish that Alaska can book it with points.
A one-way itinerary can be useful if award space is available in only one direction. An eligible round trip may also work. An open jaw is an itinerary such as flying into Tokyo and returning from Osaka. These trips and multicity itineraries are excluded.
With a certificate that covers up to 25,000 points, travel in premium cabins will often still require a substantial points balance. Check the final total and cash charges against an economy award and the cash ticket you would actually buy. For broader program context, see our Atmos Rewards guide.
You have one year from issuance to book with your certificate. Travel can take place after that deadline. Check the exact expiration date in your account before searching.
For example, if your account shows an Oct. 31 expiration date, the booking must be completed before the certificate expires. A later travel date can qualify if it is available to book. The expiration date is a booking deadline, rather than a requirement to finish the trip by that date.
You can cancel and rebook before travel as long as the certificate has not expired. Partially used tickets cannot be changed. If you change the booking after the certificate expires, you lose the discount.
I’d start with an actual trip for two, then compare the total points and cash required. The strongest use is a booking that fits your plans, has two available award seats and saves points you would otherwise spend.
For existing cardholders, a certificate that is approaching expiration can be useful even when you cannot use its full limit. For prospective applicants, find a plausible redemption first and then review the card’s complete terms.
