Compare all six Communities, kids’ award rebates, international status bonuses, resident bag benefits, and the 2026–2027 destination challenge.

Atmos Rewards Communities let Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines loyalty members choose extra benefits based on where they live and how they travel. The expanded lineup launched October 1, 2026, with six options. Joining is free, and you can belong to one Community at a time.
For families redeeming points, the 20% rebate on eligible kids’ award tickets is worth a look. For travelers working toward status, Global Locals adds 10% more status points on eligible international flights. Alaska and Hawaiʻi residents should compare those with the bag benefits they would give up by leaving their resident Community.
I’d start with trips you already plan to take. A useful benefit on one family vacation can be worth more than a destination challenge that requires several extra flights.
If you need a refresher on earning points and qualifying for status, see our Atmos Rewards guide.
| Community | Who can join | Benefit to compare first |
|---|---|---|
| Families on the Go | Any Atmos Rewards member | 20% points back on eligible award tickets for children 12 and under |
| Global Locals | Any Atmos Rewards member | 10% more status points on eligible international flights; status points from eligible partner transfers |
| Culinary Journeys | Any Atmos Rewards member | Dining destination challenge and 20% off qualifying Community experiences through Unlocked |
| Active Escapes | Any Atmos Rewards member | Outdoor destination challenge and 20% off qualifying Community experiences through Unlocked |
| Club 49 | Alaska residents with an eligible address in their account | Two free checked bags to or from Alaska; three on flights entirely within Alaska, subject to carrier and itinerary rules |
| Huakaʻi by Hawaiian | Hawaiʻi residents with a verified Hawaiʻi address | Two free checked bags on qualifying Neighbor Island flights and quarterly fare discounts |
Each Community also has a Bonus Points Challenge with its own destination list. Compare the airports on that list with your itinerary before you choose.
Existing members can find their Community under Membership benefits. When eligible to switch, select Change next to the current Community.
You make one selection per calendar year. If you join in October 2026, your next opportunity to switch begins January 1, 2027. You cannot rotate Communities for each trip. Opting out of marketing emails may also affect access to some benefits.
Families on the Go returns 20% of the Atmos Rewards points redeemed for eligible children’s award tickets after travel. Children must be 12 or younger on the travel date. Alaska, Hawaiian, and eligible partner award flights qualify.
The points must come from the enrolled member’s account, and that member must remain enrolled through completion of travel. The child does not need a separate Families on the Go membership. The benefit covers up to seven eligible children on one reservation and excludes taxes and fees. Rebates generally post within 24 hours after travel is completed.
Example: Two eligible kids’ tickets cost 25,000 points each. You redeem 50,000 points upfront and receive 10,000 back after the trip, leaving a net cost of 40,000 points plus the original taxes and fees. The adults’ tickets do not receive this rebate.
If I were booking a family award trip, I’d calculate the rebate before comparing Communities. It can produce a larger point return from one booking than visiting several challenge destinations. Check the Families on the Go benefit details, especially if you plan to use a Global Companion Award.
Global Locals adds 10% more status points on eligible flights that start or end outside the United States and credit to Atmos Rewards. Eligible partner flights and award flights can qualify. The multiplier applies to status points only.
Example: If qualifying international flights would otherwise earn 20,000 status points, the 10% bonus adds 2,000, for 22,000 total. Whether that changes your status tier depends on your other earning for the year.
Members also earn one status point per 25 base Atmos Rewards points received from eligible loyalty partner transfers. Alaska currently lists Bilt and Marriott Bonvoy. The calculation uses the Atmos points deposited, and promotional transfer bonuses are excluded.
Example: An eligible transfer depositing 25,000 base Atmos points earns 1,000 status points. I’d compare what those partner points could buy elsewhere before transferring them just to close a status gap.
Club 49 is for Alaska residents. Its current benefits include two free checked bags on qualifying Alaska or Hawaiian travel to or from Alaska, and three on Alaska Airlines flights entirely within the state. Add the member’s Atmos number and check the carrier, check-in, and companion rules for your itinerary. Bag allowances do not stack with other free bag benefits.
Huakaʻi by Hawaiian is for Hawaiʻi residents. Members receive two free checked bags on eligible Neighbor Island flights and quarterly 10% fare discount codes. Qualifying cardholders can receive 20% instead. Beginning January 1, 2027, Huakaʻi also adds 50% more points and status points on eligible flights between the Hawaiian Islands.
That January date matters when estimating your 2026 rewards. I would leave the future 50% earning bonus out of the math for a trip this year.
Before leaving either resident Community, total the bag fees and discounts you actually use. If another benefit already covers your bags, count only the extra savings. Our guide to avoiding checked bag fees with airline credit cards can help you compare coverage.
Culinary Journeys has an Acclaimed Kitchens challenge with airports including New York (JFK), Los Angeles (LAX), Chicago (ORD), and Tokyo (NRT). Active Escapes has a National Parks challenge with destinations including Bozeman (BZN), Kalispell (FCA), and Palm Springs (PSP).
Your qualifying flight destination determines challenge credit. A restaurant reservation or a national park visit alone does not earn the flight bonus. Check the specific airport code: a trip to a city through a different airport may not match its challenge entry.
Both Communities offer 20% off qualifying Unlocked experiences associated with the selected Community. The discount excludes Auctions and Events & Travel offerings, taxes, and fees. Compare the points price with the cash cost of an experience you would actually book.
I’d choose between these based on planned flights and available experiences. Spending extra on travel to collect a few hundred bonus points would be difficult to justify.
Each Community has ten listed destinations for the October 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027 challenge period. Complete eligible travel as a member, include your Atmos Rewards number, and credit the flight to Atmos Rewards. Eligible award tickets and Saver fares can count.
You earn progressively larger bonuses for each new qualifying destination. Each destination counts once, and you can visit them in any order.
| Destination number | Bonus points for that destination | Status points for that destination |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 100 | 100 |
| 2 | 200 | 200 |
| 3 | 300 | 300 |
| 4 | 400 | 400 |
| 5 | 500 | 500 |
| 6 | 750 | 750 |
| 7 | 1,000 | 1,000 |
| 8 | 1,250 | 1,250 |
| 9 | 2,500 | 2,500 |
| 10 | 3,000 | 3,000 |
All ten add up to 10,000 bonus points and 10,000 status points. The first three add up to 600 of each. That smaller total is what I’d use when three listed airports match my plans.
Switching Communities preserves points already earned, but destination progress does not transfer. There is also a separate 100,000-point prize for the first eligible member in each Community to complete all ten destinations. The contest requires U.S. residency and age 18 or older, among other rules. I would assign that competitive prize no value when deciding which Community to join.
For a household with two eligible 25,000-point kids’ tickets, the 10,000-point rebate would get my attention first. For someone close to a status threshold after several international trips, Global Locals could be more useful. Your bookings, bag needs, and existing benefits should determine the choice.
If you fly Alaska or Hawaiian regularly, I’d compare the Atmos™ Rewards Ascent Visa Signature® credit card with the Community benefits you expect to use. The card has a $95 annual fee and earns 3 points per $1 on eligible Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines purchases.
You can receive a free checked bag and preferred boarding for yourself and up to six guests on the same reservation when you pay for an eligible Alaska or Hawaiian flight with the card. If Club 49, Huakaʻi, your fare, or status already covers your bags, count only any additional savings when deciding whether the annual fee makes sense.
Ascent also offers an anniversary $99 Companion Fare, plus taxes and fees from $23, after you spend at least $6,000 on purchases during the prior anniversary year. I’d compare the total cost for two travelers with other available fares before assigning that benefit a value.
You can join a Community without opening a credit card. If you decide to add Ascent, check the current offer and card terms before applying.

Sebby's Take: A strong value play for Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines flyers, especially if you can unlock the Companion Fare each year. It probably won’t be your everyday card, but it earns its spot in a focused travel setup. Terms apply. Yes. Joining is optional and free. You need an Atmos Rewards account, must accept the Community terms, and enroll in marketing emails. Club 49 and Huakaʻi by Hawaiian also require eligible residency.
You can belong to one Community at a time and make one selection per calendar year. A selection made in 2026 can be changed beginning January 1, 2027.
No. The account redeeming the Atmos Rewards points must belong to Families on the Go through completion of travel. The child must be 12 or younger on the travel date.
The international flight multiplier adds status points only. Flights must begin or end outside the United States and credit to Atmos Rewards; eligible award flights can qualify.
Points already earned remain in your account. Progress toward destinations you have not completed does not transfer to the next Community.
