Blue Cash Everyday and Blue Cash Preferred can turn Reward Dollars into Amex savings deposits. Here are the rules, timing and card comparison.

Amex cash back can now go directly into savings. Eligible U.S. consumer cash back Card Members, including those with the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express and Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, can redeem Reward Dollars for a deposit into an American Express® High Yield Savings Account (HYSA) at a 1:1 rate. That means 100 Reward Dollars becomes a $100 deposit.
American Express announced the option Oct. 29, 2026. It gives you a straightforward way to set rewards aside for an emergency fund, a trip or another savings goal.
Cash back is received as Reward Dollars that can be redeemed for a statement credit or for other select options. Terms apply to American Express benefits and offers. Enrollment may be required for select American Express benefits and offers. Visit americanexpress.com to learn more.
| Question | What to know |
|---|---|
| Where does consumer cash back go? | An eligible Amex High Yield Savings Account |
| What is the redemption value? | 1 Reward Dollar = $1 deposited |
| Is there a minimum redemption? | No minimum |
| How long does it take? | Generally within four business days, but it may take up to six weeks |
| Can you automate it? | Automatic consumer HYSA redemptions are planned for 2027 |
You must be the Basic Card Member and a primary or second named owner of the HYSA. The savings account must be open and unrestricted, and the Card Account cannot be canceled or past due.
Online redemption requires the card and savings account to share the same Amex login. If they use different logins, call the number on the back of your card. Completed deposits are final and cannot be reversed.
The separate business option announced for Graphite™ Business Cash Unlimited Card Members sends rewards to an eligible Amex Business Checking Account. It does not make Business Checking the destination for Blue Cash Everyday or Blue Cash Preferred rewards.
Start on the website. App redemption was announced as coming soon, and automatic savings redemptions are planned for 2027. Keep making required card payments separately; a savings deposit does not pay your card bill.
The useful part is the saving habit. Moving rewards into a separate account makes it easier to keep that money available for a specific goal instead of absorbing it into routine spending.
The Amex HYSA has no monthly fees or minimum balance requirement. Interest compounds daily and is credited monthly. The interest rate and annual percentage yield (APY) are variable and can change before or after you open the account. Deposit accounts are offered by American Express National Bank. Member FDIC.
For perspective, a hypothetical $300 deposit held for a full year at a constant 3% APY would earn about $9. That rate is an illustration, not the current Amex rate. The starting balance does most of the work, so compare the account itself and avoid spending more just to earn rewards.
If your goal is simply to save the same amount, you can also redeem for a statement credit and move an equivalent amount of your own cash into your preferred savings account. Choose the workflow you are more likely to maintain. Compare savings and bank account offers through AskSebby before choosing where to keep your cash.
Choose based on your spending and annual fee. Both cards offer the consumer savings redemption option, so that feature alone does not favor one over the other.
| Feature | Blue Cash Everyday | Blue Cash Preferred |
|---|---|---|
| Annual fee | $0 (Rates and Fees) | $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $95 (Rates and Fees) |
| U.S. supermarkets | 3% on up to $6,000 per year in purchases, then 1% | 6% on up to $6,000 per year in purchases, then 1% |
| U.S. online retail purchases | 3% on up to $6,000 per year in purchases, then 1% | 1% on other eligible purchases |
| Select U.S. streaming subscriptions | 1% on other eligible purchases | 6% |
Cash back is received as Reward Dollars, redeemable for a statement credit or for other select options. Terms Apply.
On supermarket rewards alone, the extra 3 percentage points on Blue Cash Preferred would offset its $95 ongoing annual fee at about $3,167 in eligible annual U.S. supermarket purchases. This calculation excludes welcome offers, other benefits and differences in rewards on your remaining spending. At $6,000 in eligible supermarket purchases, the rewards would be $360 versus $180, a $180 difference before the annual fee.
Blue Cash Everyday can be a practical fit if U.S. online retail purchases are a large part of your budget. Its separate $6,000 annual caps also let you assess supermarket and gas station spending independently.
