Welcome Offer and Eligibility

The Capital One® Savor® Cash Rewards card has a $500 welcome offer after spending $3,000 on the card within the first 3 months of account opening.

Capital One has a few card application rules to be aware of:

  • You can only have two personal Capital One cards at a time

    • Co-branded cards are generally excluded

  • You can only get approved for one Capital One card, personal or business, once every 6 months

There are data points that you can receive a welcome offer multiple times for the same product if you follow the above rules and are approved. However, there is vague language in Capital One’s terms, so it might not be guaranteed if you previously opened the same card.

“The bonus may not be available for existing or previous account holders.”

Capital One® Savor® Cash Rewards Calculator

Ask Sebby crunches the numbers for you to calculate the Expected Value of the Capital One® Venture® Rewards card. For the expected value of Venture miles, we derive the approximate dollar value based on the numbers you enter in the calculator. Scroll down to the end of the post to see our methodology.

The calculator below contains default figures and serve as an example only. Users should insert their own data for the most accurate results.

Calculation Methodology

The results from the above calculator are based on your ability to reach the minimum spend requirement to earn the welcome offer, your amount of spend on different categories, and how much relative value you assign to the other benefits.

The “Years” referenced in the calculator refer to the cardmember year, based on when you are approved for the card.

  • Year 1 = first 12 months of card membership

  • Year 2 = the following 12 months afterward

4% Cash Back on Dining and Entertainment

One of the benefits of the Capital One Savor card is that the 4% bonus categories are applicable worldwide, and not just the U.S.

What qualifies as dining?

The dining category is not limited to dine-in restaurants only; there is a wide range of purchases:

  • Restaurants

  • Cafes

  • Bars

  • Lounges

  • Fast-food chains

  • Bakeries

Some merchants that sell food and drink located within a larger establishment (like hotel restaurants or grocery store food counters) may not categorize themselves as dining merchants. If the merchant assigns the purchase as a different category code, you might not earn cash back.

What qualifies as entertainment?

The entertainment category covers a wide range of purchases ranging from movie tickets to tourist attractions.

The following ticket purchases earn 4% on entertainment:

  • Movie theaters

  • Sports promoters (professional and semi-professional live events)

  • Theatrical promoters

  • Amusement parks

  • Tourist attractions

  • Aquariums

  • Zoos

  • Dance halls

  • Record stores

  • Pool halls or bowling alleys

The entertainment category excludes golf courses, collegiate sporting events and non-industry entertainment merchant codes like cable, digital streaming and membership services.

2% Cash Back at Grocery Stores

Earn 2% cash back on all grocery store purchases when you use the Savor card.

What qualifies as a grocery store?

  • A supermarket

  • Meat locker

  • Freezer

  • Dairy product store

  • Specialty market

The category excludes superstores like Costco, Walmart, and Target.

Vivid Seats

The Capital One Savor card has an exclusive partnership with Vivid Seats where cardmembers can earn 8% cash back on all Vivid Seats ticket purchases through May 31, 2020.

Vivid Seats is an online ticket marketplace for sports, concerts, and theater tickets.

Postmates Unlimited

If you use Postmates, the Savor card is for you. When you pay for a monthly Postmates Unlimited membership using your Savor card, you’ll receive a monthly statement credit of $9.99.

In addition to the statement credit, you’ll also earn 4% cash back on dining with Postmates Unlimited.

The Postmates Unlimited benefit is available until December 2019, and the offer is not valid with the Annual Postmates Unlimited membership ($7.99/month).
