What's in My Wallet? September 2018 Edition

The cards in my wallet rotate each month depending on if there’s a new 5% cash back category or if I’m trying to hit the minimum spend on a new credit card.

Cash Card via Cash App

The Cash Card by Square is an extension of the Cash App. Whenever you use the physical Cash Card, you can get discounts at select merchants.

My main Cash Boost setting is $1 off each visit at coffee shops because if you haven’t figured it out yet, I have a coffee problem. As a side note, the Cash Card only works in the U.S. for now. Learn more about Cash Boosts in this post or in the video below.

Try Cash App using our code and we'll both get $5 when you send $5: https://www.asksebby.com/cashapp Promo code PNFWRFW

Amex SPG Luxury

The Amex SPG Luxury card is a new addition to my wallet since it launched in August. I applied for the card during the 3-day window of opportunity before the bonus restrictions were enforced, and now I’m working on the minimum spend.

The Amex SPG Luxury card currently has an intro offer of 100,000 points after you spend $5,000 within the first 3 months. This is a limited time offer that expires on 10/31/2018.

Amex SPG Luxury card

  • Annual fee: $450

  • Intro offer: 100,000 points after $5,000 in spend within the first 3 months. Offer expires 10/31/2018.

  • Marriott credit: $300 per card member year

  • Receive 1 Free Night Award every year after your card anniversary (up to 50,000 points)

  • Earn 6X at Marriott/SPG properties

When the 100,000 point offer expires, it’s unclear what the signup bonus will be reduced to, or if there will be increased offers in the future. Learn more about the Amex SPG Luxury card in the video below:

Chase Sapphire Reserve

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is my go-to card when I rent a car. The CSR has primary collision damage waiver so I can decline the rental company’s CDW.

Important: if you don’t have liability on your personal insurance that covers rental cars, be sure to buy liability insurance from the car rental company.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is also my card for dining since I maxed out the 5% cash back dining category for the Discover It card.

Costco Membership Card

My Costco card is in my wallet whenever I travel since they usually have competitive gas prices. During my most recent trip to Tucson, AZ, I also noticed a much larger electronics offering than the San Francisco locations.

For example, I bought new air pods at Costco since they were being sold at a discounted rate of $139.99 + tax, and it comes with the Costco electronics warranty and return policy.
