Top 10 IHG Hotel Properties to Redeem Free Night Certificates

The IHG card is one of the best hotel keeper cards because you get one free night certificate each year for a $49 annual fee.

By itself, the certificate is not that great because there are expenses assoicated with traveling to the destination. However, if you're in 2-player mode or traveling with friends who also have an anniversary night to spend, you can combine the nights to make the trip worthwhile.

Another interesting thing about the IHG certificates is that you can book past the certificate expiration date. For example, if you signup for the card in Sept 2017, you'll receive the first free certificate voucher in Sept 2018. You can book a stay up to a calendar year in advance. Certificate bookings are final and cannot be changed.

One Player VS Two Player Mode

i.e., signed up for the card September 1, 2016

  • Anniversary certificate 1 = Sept 1, 2017 to Aug 31, 2018
  • Anniversary certificate 2 = Sept 1, 2018 to Aug 31, 2019

If One Person:

  • Certificate 1 = Book a trip for Dec 1, 2018 (bookable after Dec 1, 2017)
  • Certificate 2 = Book a trip for Dec 2, 2018

If Two People = 4 nights
If Three People = 6 nights*

Assuming you have four people with the IHG card, this means you can get up to 8 nights for free if you plan the trip in advance with certificate nights.

One final note before we dive in, availability might be an issue. There are a few tricks to book the free nights.

For this top 10 list, I searched for the most expensive IHG properties in the world. Most of the images of the properties are not labeled for reuse by Google, so just Google the properties to see pictures of them. 😅

We pulled the price range from TripAdvisor and took the average of the high and low end prices. If you look to the right, it shows the cents per point value.

Since we're using the average price, there's some bias involved because of seasonality. During peak season, it's going to be expensive and difficult to find availability.

Bottomline

If you want to plan a vacation to one of the top 10 locations, the IHG card is worth getting for the free anniversary night certificates. For a limited time, the IHG card has a 80,000 point signup bonus, and some people have been able to get an increased 100,000 bonus by sending a secured message. YMMV.
