IHG recently extended their status match challenge to the public until July 26, 2019. For a limited time, request a status match from a competing program to enjoy the upgraded status, complete the required stays, and keep the status through Dec 31, 2020.
Once you’re approved for the status match, you’ll have 90 days to complete the challenge:
Spire Elite: Stay 10 nights
Platinum Elite: Stay 5 nights
Gold Elite: Stay 2 nights
During the 90 day challenge, you can enjoy the benefits of the upgraded status.
The IHG hotel group includes:
Holiday Inn Club Vacations
Holiday Inn Express
Holiday Inn Resorts
Hualuxe Hotels & Resorts
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts
Regent Hotels & Resorts
IHG Spire Elite and Platinum Elite Status Benefits
Having IHG Spire Elite status is one of the best ways to increase your chances of getting a complimentary room upgrade at IHG properties.
Spire Elite benefits:
Complimentary room upgrades, subject to availability
Early 10 a.m. check-in, subject to availability
100% bonus earnings on top of base points
There are also options to status match to lower tiers like Platinum Elite or Gold Elite status. However, I don’t think it’s worth going through the challenge since there are other ways to obtain Platinum Elite.
The IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card grants you automatic Platinum Elite status as long as the card is open.
Platinum Elite benefits:
Guaranteed room availability
50% bonus earnings on top of base points

When I registered for the Spire Elite status match, I used the Hilton Diamond status from the Amex Hilton Aspire card. It took about 2 weeks to receive the status match welcome letter.
Important: You’ll need to wait until your status match request is approved for the stays to count towards the challenge.
