City National Bank Crystal Visa Infinite Credit Card Review

The Crystal Visa Infinite credit card by City National Bank is one of the few Visa Infinite cards on the market with access to the Visa Infinite Discount Travel Portal. Although the card has been on the market for a while, I haven’t reviewed it yet because it has a unique underwriting process, and there is not always a signup bonus available.

Who qualifies for the CNB Crystal Visa Infinite credit card?

It’s hard to say. Based on numerous data points, in order to get approved for the CNB Crystal Visa Infinite card, the bank does a full underwriting process.

Unlike other credit issuers that take self-reported numbers from online applications, CNB will request that you submit a W-2, pay stubs, any relevant tax documents, brokerage account statements, bank statements, and any other proof of income and assets.

If you’re someone who isn’t comfortable submitting your documents to CNB, then the Crystal Visa Infinite card might not be a good fit.

As a side note, data points suggest that CNB is looking for clients that have a high-income level or substantial assets. I suggest applying for the card if you have an annual salary of $70,000+. Even with a high income, it’s still possible to get denied. Your mileage may vary.

How to apply for the CNB Crystal Visa Infinite card

In the past, you were required to visit a branch to apply for the card in person, but some data points suggest you can apply via phone or email.

To apply via phone or email, call the nearest City National Bank and speak to a representative. They should be able to email a paper application for you to fill out and return.

City National Bank has branches in:

  • CA

  • DC

  • DE

  • GA

How much is the signup bonus worth?

We’ve seen the Crystal Visa Infinite card go from no signup bonus, 50,000 point signup bonus, and a 100,000 point signup bonus.

The current 75,000 point bonus is nice because it’s a happy medium between the 100k and 50k offer. Earn 75,000 points when you spend $5,000 within the first 90 days of account opening. Offer valid between 9/17/2018-12/17/2018.

The points are usually worth 1 cent per point when you redeem through the CNB travel portal, which makes the signup bonus worth at least $750.

$250 Airline incidental fee credit

The Crystal Visa Infinite card comes with a $250 airline incidental fee credit, plus an additional $250 airline incidental fee credit for each authorized user.

This means that if you add the maximum number of authorized users (3), you can get four $250 travel credits totaling $1,000 per year.

Keep in mind that the credits can only be used for purchases like seat upgrades, in-flight food and drink, baggage fees, and ticket changing fees.

Some data points suggest that you can buy $100 American Airlines gift cards to trigger the airline incidental credit.

Unlike the Chase Sapphire Reserve travel credit, the Crystal Visa Infinite credit will not be applied to Uber rides, hotels, or airfare.

Visa Infinite Discount Travel Portal

The Crystal Visa Infinite card gives you access to the Visa Infinite Discount Travel Portal. Get $100 off domestic roundtrip tickets when you purchase tickets for 2-5 people on the same reservation. You must use the Crystal Visa Infinite card to purchase through the portal and receive the discount.

Discounts to major airlines like United, Delta, and American Airlines can be found in the Visa Infinite Discount Travel Portal. JetBlue was recently removed. If you’re looking for a budget airline like Frontier, Spirit, or Southwest, they are not offered in the travel portal.

Priority Pass

Get access to airport lounges via Priority Pass. The primary cardholder plus one authorized user gets access to Priority Pass. This means that if you have three authorized user, only one will be issued a Priority Pass card.

The main benefit of the Crystal Visa Infinite Priority Pass membership is that you can bring unlimited guests.
