Capital One Spark Miles 200,000 Miles Welcome Offer Analysis
Capital One miles transfer at a ratio of 2:1.5 points or miles to transfer partners. Since the Capital One Spark Miles earns 2X miles per $1 spent, if you transfer the miles out, you’re earning 1.5 miles per dollar.
There are two tranches for the 200,000 mile welcome offer.
Tranche #1:
Earn 50,000 miles after $5,000 in spend within the first 3 months of account opening
If you meet the spend requirements for just the first tranche, you’ll earn a total of 60,000 miles, which equates to an 18-27% return on spend depending on how you value the cents per points.
Tranche #2:
Earn an additional 150,000 miles after an additional $45,000 in spend within the first 6 months of account opening.
If you meet the spend requirements for the second tranche, you’ll get an 8-12% return on spend.
Altogether, if you meet both tranches, you’ll earn a total of 300,000 miles from the welcome offer and points earned on total spend. The total return on spend ranges from 9-13.5%, depending on how you value the miles.
Minimum Spend
$50,000 of spend within the first 6 months is a lot of spend. I recommend looking into Plastiq to pay business expenses like rent, tax, or supplies. Plastiq is a service that lets you pay merchants that usually don’t take credit card payments; there is a 2.5% fee.
Plastiq is currently running an exclusive promotion for small businesses that signup through Ask Sebby.
If a new business makes $15,000 worth of payments using Plastiq by December 31st, they earn 5,000 fee-free dollars. Payments must be made on a business credit card.
How the Plastiq promo works:
