One of our favorite no annual fee cards from Bank of America is being discontinued. As of this week, you can no longer apply for the Better Balance Rewards credit card online. The only way to apply for the card in-branch. Another option is to request a product change to the Better Balance Rewards card.
Rumors have it that they will completely stop offering the card Summer 2017.
In case you’re not aware of what the Better Balance Rewards card is, here’s a quick rundown:
The Bank of America Better Balance Reward card pays you $25 per quarter when you pay more than the monthly minimum on time each month. Existing Bank of America customers get an EXTRA $5 bonus each quarter, making it a FREE $120/yr.
No annual fee
Use the card at least once a month
Earn $25 in statement credit each quarter when you pay off more than the minimum requirement or pay the balance in full
Existing Bank of America customers get an extra $5/quarter
We think Bank of America will keep this card around long term, but no longer publicly offer it.
Will they product change your card?
We don’t think that Bank of America will product change/convert Better Balance Rewards cardholders to another card because it’s their card, and not co-branded.
Some examples of banks keeping discontinued cards around are the Chase Sapphire, Citi Dividend card, and the original Blue card from American Express.
