American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts Benefit

The American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts program is only available to Amex Platinum cardholders. Some of the benefits include:

  • Room upgrades when available
  • Daily breakfast for two people
  • Guaranteed 4pm late check-out
  • Noon check-in when available
  • Complimentary wi-fi
  • Unique property amenity, such as a spa or food and beverage credit

Both Visa and Mastercard also have similar program to Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR). The main difference between the card payment processors are the hotel partners. If you look through the FHR programs for Visa and Mastercard, the hotels might be different compared to American Express.

You can view credit card offers by going to the "Credit Card Offers" tab. Find offers for the respective cards in "Travel Rewards Credit Cards" and "Business Credit Cards." You don't have to use our links, but we're grateful when you do. Thank you for supporting AskSebby!

Why use the Fine Hotels and Resorts program?

At first glance, the hotels in the FHR program seem expensive. Whenever I book hotels, my goal is to find a hotel for under $200/night.

If you look at hotels in cities like Hong Kong, New York, or Los Angeles, the prices can easily be $350+/night.

The sweet spot redemption for Amex FHR is in Las Vegas. There are two different scenarios for Vegas, it can costly if you visit during a weekend, or it can be relatively affordable if you visit during the weekday when there aren't events and conferences.

If you look on, there are tons of affordable options, but be aware that you will need to pay an additional $20-$40/night for the "hidden" resort fees.

This also holds true for the FHR hotel prices, but you get a unique property amenity credit to offset the cost.

The main benefit of Amex FHR is that some properties offer a complimentary fourth night, and if you have a long vacation, you can make separate bookings to get another free night and amenity credit (assuming your stay is eight nights).
